Today is the day where we start a new unit, the good thing is that it is still regarding about animation overall which is a good continuation from the previous unit. This morning I firstly filled out the initial survey for this unit. Some of the questions were difficult and some were easier than expected, meaning that this unit will offer new but similar content to the preceding unit. During this time, I dragged and updated the new file structure and it appears to be a lot of work we need to do.
When the first session began, we had a unique starter where we used Photoshop to match the description and labels to the corresponding picture (about fonts and typography). Afterwards, we had to rearrange this from pass criteria to distinction criteria order. Not only does this set a standard for the level of work but it also shows what we need to include to achieve the criteria we are aiming for. However, one thing that the starter was missing was the citation of the images and full Harvard references of the images' origin. A good reminder that I will need to include them.
| Starter Task |
| Criteria Process Words |
- What is it?
- What is involved in making this animation technique?
- What are the key features and dates?
I also included images to enhance my explanations. I am currently progressing at a steady pace thoroughly throughout the first task. I've learnt a lot today, however what interested me is that there are two different types of film reel in drawn on film animation technique. Blank (undeveloped) and black (developed) - both can portray animation differently as undeveloped film reel allows a creative aspect, such as colours and add-on objects whereas on the other hand, black film reels can only be scratched and this can show abstract expressions.
During self study time, I continued to progress and aimed to finish explaining photographic stills (stop motion) and its history/animation techniques. Once this part is done, I am ready to move on to the remaining sectors of the current task. I have also asked the "Amazing Adam" for his masters' copy for Unit 39 so I can fill in the Scheme of Learning.

Though this unit is enjoyable to learn, by looking at the Scheme of Learning I can see that there is quite a lot to cover in order to get everything done. Though this is not a complaint, I can see that everyday is going to be hard working and concentrating for me to be up to date.
Edit: I filled in the SoL for Unit 39 and have updated all of my work in the Students Write Area, Submitted Folders.
