The Serious Brief.

Hello reader,

To begin the day, I came in quite exhausted due to the continuation of working on the first assignment which is for due in for Monday... The "Amazing Adam" had probably foreseen this and instantly hit us with a starter. In this starter, each peer had to stick a key terminology on our foreheads from the previous assignment whilst playing the "yes/no" game (where you need to guess the word on your head by only asking questions that has the replies of a yes or a no). We spent a good five to ten minutes on this and some words were difficult as I observed people's foreheads. I spent most of the time helping others answer their questions before finally getting to my own - where as soon as I attempted, Connor P found me and this allowed me to guess my match up word instantly. Connor P had 'stop' and I had 'motion', together we form stop-motion and this is a way of capturing frames (e.g. used in claymation). One funny moment was that Ben R struggled to identify his world: 'Pierre Hubert Desvignes', a French man that first invented the idea of flick books back in the 1800's. In the end I found this a great way of reflecting on keywords we have once used.

Next, we then moved onto Jordan B's Thursday Quiz of the week where the video was about the history of animation as a whole. Whilst watching the video, it was very factual based and this allowed me to make notes as I listened to it in the background. At the end, I got a total of 7/10 marks. The winner was Joe B and Ben C with ten (again). Narrowing the winner down, they had a rock paper scissors showdown - leading yet again to another Joe B's win for the dual monitor of the week. The lowest score was Connor P of four and now he has to make the quiz for when we return after the half term.

Consequently, we then started to cover the second assignment of the topic as we progress forwardly. The first task we did in this sector was to write down any thoughts the client considered when they created their banners (same banner examples as we saw last time). For each one, we had a minute to create a mind map and write down all of the relevant ideas. This is all to help with the brief we started later on. The brief consisted of:

  • Clients Needs: The topic, the time, the dimensions, the assets, and the social media links.
  • Target Audience: The characteristics, preferences, age, gender, and interests.
  • Content: Game assets, social media logos, and music etc.
  • Format: Use of space on the format e.g. buttons, loop of music, the appearance one after another.
  • Aesthetic Quality: Colour palette, font choice, the use of space, and transitions of motion.
In a word document, we all briefly started this task out. Then soon after, we moved onto practicing Adobe Flash for one entire hour. As I have no prior knowledge on this, it has come to my attention that I should practice a bit on this whenever I can. During this session, we all attempted to follow a verbal and visual tutorial to how to make draw, compose and make a train move. At the end of the day, I managed to get all the designing done but lacked the animation part - which is crucial and that I will start it eventually as part of my practice.

After lunch, we had another small task to make sure we understand everything. The "Amazing Adam" picked one person to ask a random question relating to the current unit, and then asked another person to answer it - then it repeated until everyone has had their go. It was quite interesting and a fairly new way of interacting with one another. Then for the rest of the day and during self-study time, I worked on my brief/specification and expanded on points. I have in the end managed to complete everything - all that remains is to proof read and add any other relevant points.

Overall, today has been a successful day at getting the majority of the work done. We have also started to touch on Flash and this means we are heading more into the designing stage area. I am currently enjoying the unit but I still have a lot of work load which I will finish within this week.
