The History of Animations!

Hello reader,

Today is an incredibly nice and progressive day and I'd love to share it. I firstly arrived at the center full with energy and continued with the remaining outstanding work from yesterday. After the completion of photographic stills (stop motion), it was the start of the day. For our first starters, we all went to TypeRacer to see how fast we can type overall in a minute, averagely. It was a fun and an awaking experience as we get to go all out again! In the end, I managed to get 100 words per minute (exactly). Additionally, the "Amazing Adam" said that 70 words per minute is the average, so I'm glad I am above average. However, I saw one user with 161 words per minute - he must be a beast (or a cheater heh). Anyway, you can try and find out how fast you type here!

As a continuation from the starter, the "Amazing Adam" showed us some animation videos and we had to observe the techniques used and how we can apply this to our assignment. One of the videos was The Beauty & The Beast (I thought it was snow white gorilla beast haha..). Anyway, I have never watched many Disney's film during my childhood but I really do like their way of animating. I can see that The Beauty & The Beast had used rotoscoping where a drawing will be traced from the live actors.

Afterwards, we moved straight onto progressing our first task on our first assignment. Due to me finishing the work released yesterday I am now able to progress forwards. So during this time, we did personal research along with some examples the "Amazing Adam" showed us regarding about digital animation: 2D bitmaps and 2D vectors. During that session, I used some work from the previous unit as it is very relevant indeed. However, I was trying to be succinct whilst trying to reach the criteria and this had slowed me down by a bit, meaning I did not get around to 2D vectors because we had moved on. Other than that, I really enjoyed working independently and getting inspired with examples.

Consequently after the first break, as a class we then moved onto application software's. The "Amazing Adam" had sent us more examples with links to various websites. What helped me most are the YouTube links he sent us, which gave me a general overview of what each application software does and is. Within this time period, I managed my work load slowly as I have less intellect on these areas, therefore I managed to finish typing my report about Adobe Flash and started Adobe After Effects. I realise I am falling slightly behind but I know I will be catching up fairly soon.

The History of Animation
Returning from Lunch, the "Amazing Adam" moved onto the next task within the assignment. This task requires us to create a timeline where it will display many animation pioneers, developers and contemporary work. Whilst at it we need to include dates, key information, description & impacts, links, and our own opinion. To combat this massive work load, the "Amazing Adam" split our class into different groups where we need to research about our selected topic. I was paired with Jordan B (he is a hard worker 'n' awesome!) and we had to learn about the Lumiรจre Brothers. I am thankful that I am paired with somebody new because I would like to be involved with other people than the same pair. Thank you Adam. In our presentation, we worked hard as we try to reach our set criteria's but we both needed more time to do so. This will mean we will both present on Thursday. However, this is a good thing because we will be rehearsing throughout Wednesday ready for Thursday.

Overall today is a mega progressive day. Everything is moving very quickly along the line and I am falling slightly behind every time. However, I am glad we have a day off on Wednesday as it will allow me to catch up certainly. For tomorrow, I have set my personal targets to catch up/finish assignment one (recheck and refer to criteria), and prepare the assigned slides me and Jordan will present. I have nothing to worry about so hopefully I will do just fine as I treat everything seriously, even if the presentation is not graded, I had promised myself to beat my SMART target.

P.S: I updated my to-do list and it seems like I'll be busy! =)
