Design & Debug!

Yo all,

Friday it is, not a day to relax. At the start of the day, we heard that "Zoetic Zoe" was absent but she left a series of tasks for us to complete by the end of the day. They were:

  • Complete the design documentation and email it to Zoe. [Done]
  • Ensure the storyboards have been scanned and emailed to Zoe. [Done]
  • Work and improve on computer game. [Done]
  • Review and update the personal development plan. [Done]
For this, I have finished the design documentation and maintenance report since last night. I was also the first to finish, scan, and hand in my storyboard to Zoe so this puts me ahead. I firstly proof read my work from last night and corrected any grammar mistakes spotted - moreover, I also invested a good half an hour increasing the content of it. This leads to the completion of U22A2T1 for now, as I will be adding more information as I progress in the development phase of my game, but this is a good milestone for submission. Furthermore, whilst working on this task, I helped other people with the report such especially on modularity and systematic approach - the way I tackled this difficulty was to relate everything to maintenance-wise.

Next, to review and update my PDP (personal development plan), I had to check what was still needed to be done. I quickly updated the menu cover of my game by making small amendments, and then I used the size and template to lay out the foundations of the 'about' menu cover. This was relatively easy but I never got around it as I was so enclosed by other work. This allowed me to review my PDP and therefore create the tables for the remaining two weeks.
Week 2: 08/12/2014 - 15/12/2014
Afterwards, I spent the rest of the day improving my game by implementing new assets to test and mess around with. I  also got the help of Matt T and Ben R to help me debug some issues which we managed to resolve in the end. As a result, the production of my first level has begun and this will let me predict what other assets I will need to provide. Furthermore, the bugs for the enemies was fixed and now they will flip upon collision with the platform wall (I also added the animations to their movements to make it more lively). Most of all, I submitted my work but this isn't the end!

In conclusion of this blog, a lot has been achieved today which means there will be too much to list. So overall today was very concentrating, and less tiring as I got the sleep I need (I overslept :P). I plan to create all the assets I will need at home, then create all the animations, then implement inside the Game Maker software, and then finally code and build it to form my platform game: Dungeon Corruption.

(This process will be going through Christmas as I believe investing this time will give me the time I require to design my game).

Have an awesome weekend everyone!
