Preparing to Set Up a Computer System!

Hey!

In this morning, we firstly had a quiz although it isn't Thursday. So as a starter, we watched a video about 3D printing by Joseph DeSimone and answered the questions "Jovial John" asks us. Throughout the video, I have gradually made more and more notes with both visual and factual answers. It must be because we do quiz's more often now and it helps our visualisations Out of 14 marks in total, I got 11 and 1/2, whereas Jordan got 12 and 1/2 - just one off! I enjoy these starter a lot as it wakes you up and creates a small competitive atmosphere. As I have learnt a lot about 3D printing such as its procedures and futuristic capabilities, I really enjoyed it. Are you interested too? Watch here!

When the lesson started, "Jovial John" firstly recapped all of the definitions we covered yesterday. This includes: Redundancy, Uninterrupted Power Supply, Service Level Agreement, RAID 0 & 1 etc, and much more. These will help us understand the second assignment more. This activity was quite short and was a nice refresher. So next, "Jovial John" stated a client specification and we had to research a specific computer system that will meet their needs. In this case, it is a middle-aged man around 50 years old who would like a computer system capable of sending emails, browsing the web, and using Skype. To do this, I went on PC World and look at some good summer deals (they tend to target adult and general users). There, I looked at the component and details then compared them to each other. In the end, "Jovial John" asked me why I chose ACER Aspire Switch and I answered by following up how that device meets the specification. This was a fun activity and I have improved in searching skills much more than last time. I enjoyed this activity.

Afterwards, we were given a part of the day to work on U28A2T1. There, I continued to recommend specific devices and their purposes, as well as justifying why for the assignment's client (business customer). I didn't struggle here but I had to ask "Jovial John" several times whether it was succinct. I do not wish to go overboard but to justify it makes each point several lines longer. For this task, I plan to finish this at home within tonight or tomorrow.

Once our time was up (before Lunch), "Jovial John" begun to explain the principals of the third assignment. At first, he firstly discussed the different factors for health and safety (along with equipment) and how we can prevent those tragedies in hardware. We firstly paired up with a partner and split these safety hazards into four separate columns: User/Components/Software/Data. Then when the time was up, we gave feedback and discussed. I used this opportunity to make notes as I struggled to think back then. It also helps for Thursday's practical (set up a computer system).

Next, we then actually looked at the first task of assignment three. There, "Jovial John" talked about the different things we need to consider and do when we set up a computer system. He also showed older student work to inspire us and give us an indication of detail level. For me, I firstly struggled and had to ask for help as this isn't my forte. However, when he explained to the class and set examples of what a checklist would look like, it helped me majorly. In the end, we looked at each other's checklist to see what we had missed out. For me, I asked Joe B why there are two bench marks part - he told me because it is required to see the difference in computer speed. I also took this opportunity to ask John several questions that confused me, though they were minor.

At the end of the day, I went back to Unit 28 and decided to fill in the Scheme of Learning I had promised to. As "Zoetic Zoe" came down just at the right time, I asked her to help me with filling the boxes (Scheme of Learning's are always difficult). When finished, I dragged the file in and submitted the entire work by inputting comments on the Mark Grid.

With very little time left, I dragged all of my work into my memory stick and am heading off early (dentist). However, today has been a really informative day and I am ready to get things done. I am aware that I am not experienced in computer systems but I am intriuged in learning how things work. This can help my future career because I can understand what specifications and procedures I as a designer/artist would need in a working environment.

My plans for tonight and tomorrow are to continue and hopefully finish assignment two. Then I will research anything I am confused on the checklist I will be creating for assignment three task two and three. Apologies for the long blog - I actually enjoy typing it... Anyway, see you in two days! =D
