Creative Futures Event + Unit 39 Completion!

So yesterday, myself and my class attended the Creative Futures event at The Forums, Norwich where we can learn, explore, experience and ask advice on a one to one basis regarding about the creative industries, such as journalism, book writing, games art design, animations, radio shows etc. At the event, I firstly attended the short curve talk where three people, composed of a psychological employee, an author and a book shop owner and seller described their lives and their bumpy road of success. Some cases were tragic and it makes me wonder again how I can not make the same mistake. They also gave useful advice, though it was not related to games and art design, I applied their life lessons to my own and took on their advice willingly. Some of it was really deep and their wisdom is indeed helpful.

Afterwards, me and some other peers worked in the animation workshop. This wasn't as fun at all as it was repeating things we already knew and learnt; thus the overall enjoyability was fairly low due to the technological equipment and planning being terribly poor. At lunch, I spoke to many people about my plans and future, my current goals and issues. I asked questions and met an old friend along the way, there I asked them what they did during their university interviews etc and I had literally got really good advice, it's soothing to hear as I am on the right track.

So lastly, me and some other peers worked at the games design work shop, ran by the NUA ambassadors. It's the same girl and guy from the open day so I was able to communicate and get along very well. There, we drew characters and we thought about the story behind them, plots behind them etc. It was very fun as we got a laugh, her advice's are to practice but I've been doing that already, which means I am one step ahead.

I learnt a lot about universities and advice's from many experienced people, however not particularly about the subject itself. For me, I loved the games and art part the most, it's university students and I can't ask for a better scenario. It is inspiring me to go NUA even more, but I must first hang on and check out the other open days upcoming.  I recommend and would let level 3's to go again as it will open another dimension to them. Well, it did to me!

Back to topic, today is the completion of unit 39 as stated above. When I arrived to the center, I got another peer to quickly finish off the last column of my peer review (feedbacks). Afterwards, I have finished entirely as I spent my night proof reading yesterday. All it was left is to ask the "Amazing Adam" to double check. However, as we didn't do Thursday quiz, we did it today instead. It was related to Pixar's short animations: "Lifted". Out of five questions, there was seven marks in total. At the end, I got five out of seven as most of the questions were about colours and not about the animation, which is somewhat fine. Ashley P is the winner of the week and the loser is Alex S.

Returning and continuing all of our work. I was first to finish unit 39 in the morning. I took this opportunity to ask the "Amazing Adam" what else I could do to improve. In his response, he told me to write a short summarised conclusion (which I did after) and to actually take on the suggested further improvements. This meant I needed to submit two .SWF files of my animation. Though there was not much differences, I increased the quality and smoothness of my animation. Other than this, I also attempted to make the mute button - but it only works part way with the graphic changing. In the end, I submitted immediately. I also took this time to fill out the end of unit survey. At Monday, I will hopefully fill in the SoL by asking the "Amazing Adam" to borrow his master SoL.

Throughout the day, I did a bit of drawing. However, I was very tired so I decided to help other students with their survey, work and re-submission work (not giving them any answers obviously). Moreover, some point during the day myself, Euan J, Adam M and Joe B helped "Jovial John" transport boxes of Lego's, desktop monitors, and computers to Pete's office and the other office. This was a good little exercise.

This leaves me with nothing to do, so today I will be leaving earlier than usual. However, I've been playing chess with other peers that has also finished their work. Don't worry, I didn't distract anyone.
