Today is another epic day, are you ready to read my not-so-dull-but-maybe-it-is blog? Yeah I am! So in the morning the "Amazing Adam" quickly made us use Photoshop CS6 (*baby yays*) - we had to make a topology by drawing shapes without looking at references. I decided to design the mesh topology by using the shape tools; I also added labels in addition to improve the appearance of my diagram. At the end of this starter task, we all compared each others and had a quick recap of the topic.
We then had the first part of the day where we continued with any outstanding work from U10A1T2 and or from other works via different units/assignments. For me, as I have completed U10A1T2 Part 1, 2, and 3 for the "Amazing Adam"- I started and end up finishing U10A1T2 Part 4 - about network software. I created a document regarding about the purposes, uses, and explanations for NOS (network operating system) and NCS (network connection softwares). I had learnt that NOS is an operating system such as Microsoft Windows and acts as a server, having total access and privileges to all of the files and or domain of the network. However on the other hand, NCS is to assist and can have somewhat a high level of access to the files, databases and management too as it can also control the user's level of access. relieving the strain on the main NOS.
After completing this part of the work, I added images, included references and posted my blog. I then moved onto part 5, where I have to create a blog post about access methods such as of CSMA/CA and CSMA/CD along with token passing. With the help of the "Amazing Adam", the internet, the text book as well as my own knowledge I manged to complete this document. However, all I require to do is to add two images, finish off my references, and proof read. This will allow me to start and hopefully finish part 6 and 7 by the end of Wednesday if I keep my head down.
Consequently, before I could finish part 4 of U10A1T2, the "Amazing Adam" interrupted and moved us onto a short fun quiz. The questions were fair and was about the content we had learnt so far within the unit. In the end, I got a total of 7/10 marks as I got a several wrong in the area of routers (I got mixed up its uses and so forth with modems or something...). After an energetic heart-warming welcome back, the "Amazing Adam" moved onto the second assignment of the unit - he had a good attempt and explained to us about error detection and error correction. Furthermore, because the topic was related to binary, some of us got confused.
However, in the end I asked other students to help ease my confusion as well as by asking Adam to re-explain some parts. As a result, I understand what it is now (hopefully). Out of memory: The device sends a file to the recipient device which will receive it, however it is split into packets. Each packet contains a byte. When the device receives the snippet of the file, it will attempt to revise the byte to see if it the data is correct. It does this by adding a parity check that makes it even or odd (binary) based on the protocol. If the data is corrupt and does not match the protocol's specification, it will request a new one to be resent. However, a flaw has been identified to that some bits can be corrupt yet still remain in an odd number (assume the protocol accepts odd only) it will still be able to pass through.
After a long hard working day, we still had more (yay!). Next, we had "Jovial John" and quickly re-explained some key terminologies we tallied yesterday. Additionally, he also covered the distinction criteria for U10A1T3 and helped me furthermore by having a one to one discussion regarding about it. His explanations are simple, straight forward to understand, and works really well for me. I appreciate all of his efforts.
At the end of the day I packed up and had a good rest, however when I was doing it, 99.99% of other people are already gone - it seems like it has been a big day!
Overall, today I have learnt a huge ton! My plans over tonight and tomorrow on our day off is to:
- Complete U10A1T2 outstanding work.
- Complete outstanding work from U22A4 and prepare to resubmit.
- Start off U10A1T3.
- Complete and other outstanding work from anything college-related.
