Another Friday just went past.
During the first part of the day, the "Amazing Adam" informed us of the latest blog stars: Alex S, Alex W, Gabe, Connor, Ed, and Matt (people who had a detailed discussion about blogs). Then we moved onto learning how the marking criteria works (in order to achieve a certain criteria, one must achieve all of the same one e.g M1, M2 for Merit). In addition, he also explained a detailed and thorough recap about D1. This includes telling us what we missed and what remains is crucial to obtain D1. The purpose of the recap was to sort out the confusion beyond the class. Immediately, we all went back to our U30A1T1 and improved on our D1. I improved mine by mentioning many more negative impacts the output medium iPhone 6 and Google Glass has an designers overall, and how it may effect the creation of graphic images.
Furthermore, we did the same drawing task in the past and folded an A3 piece of paper into eight separate sections. The "Amazing Adam" gave us a word and we had 20 seconds to draw each section. However, the last four sections we had an extension of ten seconds, making it 30 seconds. Examples of words he gave us was, "life", "wealthy man", "healthy" etc. Sometimes the word was repeated and this was purposely done to stimulate our creativity much more and think of different representations the image we drew can represent. We then viewed each others drawings in groups of three and shared our opinions about which drawing we like most to each other. However, the last four sections were special and we had to vote on other student's drawings around the classroom. As a result, I got most votes on my "life" drawing. (Landscape of a hill, with a tree in the center surrounded by nature and animals - habitat).
Afterwards, we were ready to start the character creation, therefore we typed a conclusion summarizing our chosen game idea. We had to explain which refined idea we would choose as final and why. This part is completely opinion based, therefore everyone had different reasons. My reason was because I was inspired much more than the rest during my research on finding backgrounds suitable for each platform game.
Right after lunch, myself, Brandon, Ashley, Connor and Billy were sent upstairs with Catherine to do some English grammar about commas. I was told I overuse the amount of commas and I use too little fullstops. So. Here. You. Go. Are. You. Happy. Now?
In the last part of the day, we started character designs. I started off designing the enemies, which will be a skeleton and another idea yet to come. The "Amazing Adam" was kind enough to send a tutorial teaching the dimensions of the character design (50x50 canvas). This is my first experience on character making using pixels, therefore I consumed a lot of time just getting the basics done of one character. However, I will be continuing this character (skeleton) during self-study time and at home. Moreover, I cleaned up the big mess we all created today by hoovering the common room and the kitchen. I forcefully made Brandon my cleaning buddy (wheyyyyy).
Overall, today was an exciting day because we are finally moving to the best part of the unit! Designing the game! And oh, one positive thing I experienced during today was cleaning the upstairs. It's as clean as a hotel room, and the kitchen looks like an american dining restaurant. I hope the staffs will be proud. (Furthermore, they could hire me to do the cleaning... *wink wink nudge nudge*).
