Website Theories!

Monday, yay?

Hello! During this morning, I arrived at the center a little later than usual. With the remaining time before the lesson started, I used it to ask "Zoetic Zoe" about the task today. I also re-read the Scheme of Learning to understand the new task in more detail.

A while later, our starter was to do think of what different ideas that can affect the performance of a website. During this time, I thought of several main ones. Afterwards, "Zoetic Zoe" took down our ideas and we had a fun class discussion regarding it. After this, she briefly explained what we need to do in the first task of the second assignment as we go through the SoL. This was about factors that can influence website performance.

Most of the information she mentioned was in my text book, therefore I am able to use it to my advantage. Once she had finished explaining, we cracked on with the work. Interestingly speaking, I learnt that there are two sides that can affect this: the user and the server side factors. For the factors, things like download speed, PC performance factors, browser choice, web server capacity, executions, number of hits, file size and formats, and other factors such as location all play a role. I also took the time to add other factors that I personally know, such as web hosting service choice.

In a word document, I started and ended up finishing the task for today as I lowered my head and cracked on. What was beneficial was that most of the content was already taught in previous units, as a result this made it easier for me to make conclusions and state facts with absolutely few references - great news! So in summary, I can say that there are many factors that can slow down a webpage, but it can all be dealt with if measures are taken appropriately and realistically.

During the a random part of the day, Pete printed out a meme of "Jovial John" me and Sami S photoshopped on Friday independent time for fun. We stuck this around the classroom in order to prank/annoy John. I also sent this as a JPEG to everyone in the class to change their background as well as their screen saver. Time to see what his reaction will be.

Nearer the end of the day, I used the remaining time to proof read, remove repeated sections and add other unmentioned information to be more succinct. I have also read the second assignment in preparation for which I will begin tomorrow.

Overall, today is a very short day (and blog). Today is also the first day I will be leaving extremely early at 14:20pm as I am off to see a drawing tutor whom may be able to potentially boost my skills. Have a great day. =)
