Concerns & Benefits Gaming Have To Society & Individuals

In this fine early morning, "Zoetic Zoe" split the class into many groups of three. Half of the groups had to come up with concerns of gaming, whereas the other half had to come up with benefits of gaming. My group: Adam M, Matt T, and myself were in a group of three and we came up with many concerns such as: cyber bullying, and social isolation. During that time, I knew more about the benefits as I had read the book several times at home and on the bus but I couldn't remember. Afterwards, all the groups of three's for benefits joined together to form one large group as well as the group which did the concerns of gaming. We then had to write down and sum up all of the points everyone has made. As head boy I wrote down all of the ideas onto a piece of paper. During then, I then saw other concerns for gaming that allowed me to remember now, such as separation from reality and costs (e.g. monthly subscription fee's). Furthermore, I learnt other concerns such as paedophiles as well as not having enough vitamin D from sunlight,  which was unexpected. We then shared our ideas to each other and listened to the other group.

Moving on, "Zoetic Zoe" then explained to us the concerns in detail as she goes through the Scheme of Learning. As she spoke, I decided to make notes although I have a text book as I can make my explanations and reasoning valid by adding more detail.
The main concerns are:

  • Excessive Playing Time
  • Social Isolation
  • Cost
  • Separation From Reality
  • Education
  • Cyber Bullying
  • Health Issues
The whole class then started on A1T1 and we all created an instructional material to explain the impact of computer games on society and individuals. Soon, due to Joe B's fast speed at work, "Zoetic Zoe" then moved onto explaining the benefits in detail - which I also made notes on:
  • Education
  • Future Impacts (Technology)
  • Impact On 'Mainstream' Application Development
  • Social Skills
  • Source Of Income
Furthermore, as the class continued with the piece of work, some people got the work done quickly. They then started to create better graphics to improve their assets for the game as well as learn off tutorials. By the end of several hard working-focused hours, I managed to proof read and complete A1T1. I immediately then moved onto practicing GameMaker as well as to start thinking about the story line to prepare. I would like to learn the functionality before the aesthetics as I would like a working platform game.

During self-study time, I planned out my story board for my game as I believe planning comes before the design. I also used this time to ask Ben R how to make my assets bigger from Photoshop to Illustrator as it turns into a vector.

Overall, I found today a very straightforward yet focusing day as everyone got a lot of work done. I also realised I need to work even harder and concentrate even more as I need to keep up to date with my work (which I am), design better assets, learn GameMaker as well as get my drawings done as soon as possible, so there goes my Wednesday.

Have a good day, thank you for reading!
