Progress!

Good Friday!

Today was a superb time as it was very progressive and a lot got done in such little time. The blog stars from yesterday was Euan and Adam. This is because their English has brought attention to Adam using level 3 standard English vocabularies. Furthermore, the "Amazing Adam", also briefly told us about Learners Forums, "a forum website where learners gather". This is a chance to represent and or shape the future of this college. This has caught my attention and I am interested as I have always wanted to be a leader-president-like role in an educational college (greatly inspired from watching too much anime!) The first thing we did was watch a very weird video about students persuading the viewer to attend Easton college. We were shown this to see different forms of communication. However, the video should be: "How to not make a video" as it was beyond terrible?

The first activity the group participated in was going outside and throwing a green paper ball, explaining what we enjoyed most in the graphics unit. For me, I enjoyed designing the front cover the most because it is the moment when you combine all of your work together to create a final result. (This was the same for some others too.) Afterwards, the "Amazing Adam" asked us some questions which were clearly thought out to target specifically us. By responding to his questions, we either walked to one side of the space or to the other. This was a splendid opportunity to learn about others. I learnt that most people are for Comic Sans rather than against; which was not surprising because I an for it too!

Afterwards, the "Amazing Adam" was determined to expand our vocabularies. He gave us a list of words and we created a document to state whether each word is positive or negative. Positive words consisted of: magnificent, sensational, and effective whereas negative word included: offend, conflicting, and repulsive. Some of these words were new to me therefore I will try to use them more as it will help expand my range of vocabularies. Subsequently, we then tried to improve our representations of the words "design", "formatting", and "consistency" by spending more time on Photoshop. When improving, I used what I had learnt about the class to add onto the current picture of "design", making it more appealing to everyone. Then we got into groups of three to four and gave one feedback and one improvement to them. Along the way, we tried to apply the words we just covered.
My representation of "Design".
After a period of time, the "Amazing Adam" wanted to cover up what homophones are. In response to this, he gave us a worksheet to practice homophones. These are essentially words that sounds similar but are spelled differently. One main point we had to look at are the differences between "Copyrighting" and "Copywriting" as it is a homophone itself. As everything is in order, we started the fourth assignment (A4) and the topic was about copyright itself. (Oh, the irony). We had to type about what it is, what designers can and cannot do, and what people can do to protect their work. However, I already knew a lot about 'Copyright, Designs & Patents Act 1988'. Therefore I read more into the topic and learnt that when someone uses your work without authority, you have the right to sue that person by seeking support such as from a lawyer (legal help). I had then finished the first part of A4 by the end of the session.

Lastly, we looked at common mistakes the majority of the people made in A2. The one mistake that bugged the "Amazing Adam" the most was the fact that people use capital letters in the middle of the sentences mistakenly. It's Funny Because The Irony. This should hopefully help people use capitals appropriately. During self study time, I typed this very long and detailed blog with the help of the "Amazing Adam" as he put what we had done today in order on the board. This is very helpful as it can allow us to reflect back on what we had done today. This can also help others who forget and can potentially boost the amount of things written in their blogs. (I recommend we keep doing this as I believe it is beneficial). I also asked Adam about Learns Forums, as I am interested and he explained it to me thoroughly.

Overall, today was an intense and progressive day. Hence the amount of words everyone has typed. We're all tired, time to go home.

Peace!
